For my second production of Assassins with MTG, I took on the mantle of props designer instead of costuming. Taking lots of inspiration from primary historical resources (especially period pamplets and newpaper design), I made historical accuracy the focus of the props. The show also involved lots of edibles and consumed paper props, which involved some logistics juggling.
I was also responsilble for sourcing several firing stage guns and ammo, which is a task that always has to be taken seriously, with a safety plan in effect at every step. We kept all prop guns and ammo locked in a secure toolbox off-campus throughout the rehearsal process, and in a locked closet in the performance space.
This Pinterest board was very useful for keeping track of the many reference images I used throughout the design process.
