Planet of the Warrior Bunnies
Unreliable Narrator Theater Group, October 2016
Dir. Carl Danielson
A spiritual sequel to the webseries Way of the Warrior Bunny, Planet of the Warrior Bunnies was a zany action-adventure comedy written and directed by local playwright Carl Danielson. Taking over costumes, I wanted to pay homage to the main characters' costumes from the webseries, but put a new spin on it, since this time we were on the bunnies' home planet.
Much inspiration was taken from fantasy armor (think "barbarian class"), with lots of fur accents to keep the anthropomorphized bunnies looking lapine. The biggest challenges were keeping the costumes agile, since the show featured numerous intense fight sequences, and trying to minimize body paint. Whereas Way featured one bunny in a fur suit, Planet requred nine bunnies, so we opted for a base outfit in a bunny fur color with warrior accents on top and minimal face makeup. Each bunny also had a custom-made set of ears, fur cuffs, weapon holsters, and tail. I love bringing ensembles to life with lots of little details, so this one was a challenge and a lot of fun.
