A New Brain
Moonbox Productions, March 2013
Dir. Allison Choat
For A New Brain, my first musical with Moonbox Productions, I had the privilege of working under the amazing Fabian Aguilar as Assistant Costume Designer. One of the major themes of the show is focusing on small happinesses to get through impossible times--namely, treating the main character's rare brain disease. Surreal, peppy, and full of dark humor, the costumes reflected the mood by being bright, whimsical, and full of character.
My favorite build for the show, hands-down, was Mr. Bungee and his Tadpole ensemble, the characters of a children's television show that the main character composes music for. We built a full-size frog costume out of fleece, foam, a de-commissioned climbing helmet, and giant pink buttons. And then naturally took turns wearing it around the costume shop.
I was also in charge of the nurses' outfits for the dream sequence, which led to this handsome set of black-and-magenta tango scrubs.
