Halloo, halloo!
Big updates in Rosserland. Two major life events have transpired, and I feel that one of my favorite Tolkien quotes is appropriate for both of them: "Well, I'm back."
First off, I'm back from a month of backpacking, biking, kayaking, and exploring mountains and canyons in New Zealand! It was a truly amazing experience, and I'm so glad I listened to the nagging little voice of spontaneity that first hissed it at me. (Yeah, my inner voice is an orc. Deal with it.) I met some great people from all over the world, and I feel revamped and rejuvenated for my next big project. Which is...
Secondly, after a hiatus of three and a half years, I'm back at MIT, working again towards my undergrad degree! When I left, I was studying mechanical engineering, and longing for some humanities perspective. Now, armed with a plan for a joint degree in mech eng. and science writing (Course 21E in MIT-speak), I feel like I'm back to doing something important. The time off was great in that it convinced me of my own "scrappiness," as one of my former DrawTop bosses was fond of saying. Now to buckle down and use my scrappiness to get this degree. That will unfortunately mean fewer hours to devote to madcap projects...so the Makery time I get will just have to be represented here that much more heavily.
Along those lines, here's the prognosis for some fun events coming up!

Girls' Maker Day at the MIT Museum
This Saturday, I'm giving a short presentation of my work for a Maker showcase, specifically targeted for girls. Not sure exactly what to expect, but I am bringing some hand-built costumes and some T-shirt scraps for impromptu sewing projects, so it's bound to be a fun time.
ESP's Spark is coming up!
On the 14th and 15th, I'm teaching a costume design class and several iterations of a Mutant Plushie Lab for ESP's annual Spark event, where 1000+ Middle Schoolers invade MIT's campus for the weekend to take a huge variety of classes--all devised and taught by MIT students. Planning to revamp my curriculum this year, and hopefully grab more pictures of the mutant plushie creations than I have in the past.
Until then, it's back to the essays and the Psets, and maybe to finally sticking a projects page up on this site that revolves around some MIT classes!
